Peter Bourne is regarded simply as “The Wine Man”. His name is synonymous with an enthusiasm and a passion for all things vinous. Peter enjoys a high profile and prides himself on being both independent and credible, a view reflected by those within the industry, the wine media and, most importantly, with consumers.
Peter owned and managed The Peter Bourne Wine Emporium (formerly known as Moore Park Cellars) in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs from 1976 until late 1993 and now works as a full time wine consultant.
Peter’s varied yet complementary activities include:
- Wine tastings, corporate presentations and wine dinners. Peter maintains a relaxed and friendly manner, which has helped many to overcome the inherent intimidation of the world of wine.
- Wine education remains the cornerstone of Peter’s activities with regular wine appreciation courses now held in the tasting room at his Pyrmont location.
- Wine list preparation keeps Peter apace with the range and availability of both Australian and imported wines.
- Industry staff training enables Peter to maintain his connections with management and staff of Sydney’s dynamic restaurant scene and those involved in the marketing, distribution and promotion of Australian wine.
- Peter manages the wine cellars of private individuals and organisations, using a sophisticated database and dedicated wine storage facilities to ensure that wines are consumed or sold at their optimum and in peak condition.
- Journalism is an integral part of Peter’s activities. He writes the monthly wine column in the Sydney Morning Herald’s the (sydney) magazine and regularly contributes to Uncorked Magazine, Gourmet Traveller WINE and the Qantas Magazine.
- Wine Judging, at numerous National and International Wine Shows, ensures Peter maintains a broad and independent viewpoint of the Australian wine industry.
Peter is no pompous, boring connoisseur. His enthusiasm is enormous and extremely contagious. He calls Australia’s leading vignerons friends and has access to high profile chefs, restaurateurs and members of the wine media.
Peter has gathered a reputation for both his independence and credibility. He is a great ambassador for Australia’s Wine Industry and for good food, good wine and good times.
